Using the Terrier Sample/Drilling rig..

The Dando Terrier site investigation, sampling and geotechnical drilling rig has been designed specifically for sampling and testing for geotechnical and environmental analysis. Crawler-mounted for easy site access in the most arduous conditions. Simple to operate and extremely reliable.

The Terrier rig is powered by a diesel engine and is fitted with a spark arrestor and chalwyn valve. The rig is capable of sampling to 10m depth and can insert temporary casing to support boreholes as they are drilled. Boreholes can be drilled in sufficient diameter to allow installation of 63mm diameter wells. The two piece drop hammer allows for standard penetration tests (SPT’s) and also undisturbed sampling (U100’s). The Terrier is also capable of heavy and super heavy dynamic probing.

The Terrier is transported to site in a fully equipped van containing all equipment and materials. Once on site the Terrier is quickly and easily set up at borehole positions. Drilling can commence within minutes of arriving on site.

Our drillers are experienced not only in geotechnical drilling but they also have great experience in both vacuum excavation and diamond coring, giving them a great understanding of what else in going on around site.

Windowless Sampling

Windowless sampling barrels between 86mm and 116mm diameter contain plastic liners to retain soil samples. Liners are removed from sample barrels after drilling. The use of a plastic liner allows for excellent presentation of high quality samples.

SPT/DPT/Undisturbed Sampling

SPT, DPT and undisturbed sampling (100mm diameter U100) can be carried out during the drilling of boreholes.

Well Installation

Following drilling we can install a range of wells for numerous monitoring applications.

We have a large stock of consumable items including:

Working on Slopes

The Terrier Rig is capable of tracking over slopes up to 30 degrees. This allows for good access and manoeuvrability across steep or uneven terrain. The hydraulic tilting undercarriage allows the rig to set up and drill on sloped surfaces.
